Corregidor, also known as Fort Mills, was home to Malinta Hill containing 25 lateral tunnels running for 826 feet. General Douglas MacArthur's headquarters, storage areas, a hospital, and medical facilities were housed there. However this was not big enough to house all of the soldiers during heavy bombing leading to its downfall. |
The Battle of Corregidor started on May 5, 1942. On the night of May 5, Colonel Gempachi Sato of the Japanese landed his battlions on the beach and took his position there. The next day, they lead their four infantry battalions against Ramsay battery hill, marking the beginning of the Battle of Corregidor. |
